She also highlights many of the obstacles she experienced and the nuggets of knowledge she picked up along the way.
“What I tried to convey to readers is that in each space and time in my young life there were more revelations I found about myself,” Hinton said. “I learned that even though I was different in my attraction and orientation, I was no different than any other young person growing up.”
It was important for Hinton to share her story and demonstrate the importance of her life.
“I want people to understand that sometimes ‘loud, live, and in color,’ comes with some darkness, baby,” Hinton said. “You see the ‘loud, live, and in color,’ but you didn’t know that it was deep, dark, and janky for me for a long time.”
Written in an interview style, the book will appeal to readers of all backgrounds as Hinton shares her story in a funny and vibrant way. Her book is intended for a universal audience, especially members of the LGBTQ community.
“I want readers to know that I have a journey,” Hinton said. “Everything that’s sparkling now, was definitely dull in the start and I want my readers and people who stumble across this book to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel, you just have to keep persevering through it.”
